Each semester, the Biology Department is able to accept a limited number of current TCNJ students into the department as new biology majors. Current TCNJ students who meet the requirements may apply to the department to change their major to biology, but acceptance into the major is not guaranteed.
Effective November 12, 2014, the criteria for submitting an application have changed. The new criteria are as follows:
- The applicant must have completed at least 8 course units at TCNJ
- The cumulative GPA for all courses completed at TCNJ must be at least 2.50
- The applicant must have completed the following three required courses: BIO 185 (to be known as BIO 201/Foundations of Biological Inquiry, effective Fall 2016), CHE 201 and MAT 127, and earned a grade of C- or higher in these courses.
Please note, however, that acceptance into the major is not guaranteed, and is subject to availability of space. Acceptance is determined by a committee of faculty in the Department of Biology, and is based on the criteria outlined in the application.
The application form and the guidelines are available using the links below, or by requesting copies from the Biology Department Office, BIO Room 202.
Deadline: The completed form should be submitted to the Biology office before the end of the semester during which the applicant will complete the requirements (December 1 for the fall semester, and April 15 for the spring semester).
Complete details are included within the “Guidelines” document.
